Russell Stannard, OBE, a British national who specialized in high-energy particle physics, lived from 24 December 1931 until 4 July 2022.

At the Open University, Russell Stannard served as an emeritus professor of physics.
For his “major contributions to the study of spiritual values, notably for breakthroughs to better understand science and religion,” he received the Templeton UK Project Award in 1986.
Russell Stannard received the OBE in 1998 for his “distinguished contributions to the teaching of physics” and the Bragg Medal and Prize of the Institute of Physics in 1999 for his “contributions to physics, the Open University, and the popularization of science.” (1999).
In 2000, Russell Stannard was admitted to the University College London as a Fellow.
Two of Stannard’s sculptures were on display in the main courtyard of the Open University campus in Milton Keynes. Stannard also painted.
He oversaw a series of ten brief programs in 2010 titled “Boundaries of the knowable,” which explored issues from both scientific and philosophical viewpoints.
These topics included the nature of consciousness, the nature of matter, space and time, the wave-particle duality of matter, the existence of extraterrestrial life and infinite universes, whether our universe is eternal, and the question of “What caused the Big Bang?” On July 4, 2022, Stannard passed away at the age of 90.
