Even though it had only been around for a few years, the beauty pageant was still known as “The Atlantic City Pageant” at the time, and the winner was known as “The Golden Mermaid.” She is interred in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania’s Arlington National Cemetery.

Schaubel performed modeling assignments for H. Armstrong Roberts. In 1931, she married Carl Schuabel, who would go on to become vice president of administration at Widner University.

Carl Schaubel gave Pennsylvania Military College his all. Jim, as he was known to his classmates, participated in a wide range of campus activities, including serving as the yearbook’s sports editor, the captain of B Company, a representative on the P.M.C. Committee, and the captain of the unbeaten 1930 J.V. Polo Team.
