On Friday, a tragic incident occurred in the Gaza Strip when Israeli airstrikes targeted the main gate of Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital in the blockaded region. The strike hit a convoy of ambulances that were transporting patients to the Rafah Crossing, resulting in multiple casualties near the hospital.

The Israeli military targeted “a convoy of ambulances that was transporting the wounded” from Gaza City to Rafah in the south, according to a government statement. The strike at the entrance to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City resulted in several citizens being killed and dozens wounded, as reported by the health ministry.

Al-Shifa Hospital, already facing severe overcrowding, had a bed occupancy rate of 164%, according to the World Health Organization. The dire situation is compounded by the fact that 16 hospitals across Gaza are no longer functioning due to damage from previous strikes and a lack of fuel.

In another distressing development, the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, the only hospital in the besieged enclave for cancer patients, was targeted by Israeli jets on Monday. Israel has also been accused of targeting other hospitals while refusing to take responsibility for these inhumane attacks.

The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning on Wednesday about the immediate risk to the lives of the wounded and other patients due to the fuel shortage. Over the course of four weeks of war, more than 23,500 people have been wounded in Gaza, and the death toll has tragically surpassed 9,200. Among the casualties, over 9,000 were Palestinians, with a significant number being women and children, further underscoring the devastating impact of the ongoing Israeli attacks on the region.
