About Stoke City Football Club
Stoke City Football Club is a professional team based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The club was originally known as Stoke Ramblers when it was established in 1863, but changed its name to Stoke in 1878 and later became Stoke City in 1925 when Stoke-on-Trent was granted city status. The club’s impressive home ground is the bet365 Stadium, which can accommodate up to 30,089 spectators.
Before the bet365 Stadium was opened in 1997, Stoke City played their home games at the Victoria Ground, starting from 1878. Stoke City can now look forward to nurturing home-grown talent and attracting the best young players to the Potteries after being granted Category One status under the FA’s new Elite Player Performance Plan.
The Club was rewarded for 18 months of planning and hard work with that prestigious grading within the Academy set-up, thus boosting their prospects of achieving sustained success at the highest level in the long term future.
While the creation of the new training facility at Clayton Wood was an initial stage of that development process, there was also been a significant amount of work aimed at meeting the criteria of the EP Category One status
The Academy coaches young footballers from the ages of 8 to 18 involving approximately 150 young players, looked after by 30 full-time and part-time staff.
