Ryan Fitzpatrick, the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, used to be Tagovailoa’s backup when he first started his career. He eventually took over as the starter during the end of his first season and became Miami’s regular starter starting in 2021.

Tua also participated in college football for Alabama, where as a sophomore he received the Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards. The 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship also recognized him as the Offensive MVP.
