The convicted sex killer Peter Tobin was today found guilty of the murder of the schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton, who went missing from her home in Scotland in 1991 and ordered to serve a minimum sentence of 30 years in jail.
The disappearance of the 15-year-old from Redding, Falkirk, on her way home, sparked one of the biggest missing person investigations in Scottish history. Her remains were found buried at a house in Margate, Kent, in November last year.

Vicky Hamilton was murdered by Peter Tobin in a ‘barbaric act’ of ‘unspeakable horror’, a jury has been told. Tobin, 62, then allegedly cut Vicky’s body in two before burying her mutilated corpse in the back garden of the house he moved to in Margate, Kent, shortly after Vicky’s disappearance.
Tobin wickedly intended to kill Vicky and he did so. The horror of the fate that befell Vicky Hamilton cannot be overstated. I have searched long and hard in my lexicon to find words that can properly describe what happened to this poor girl. The best I can do is describe it as “evil.
