Victor Wembanyama (born January 4, 2004) is a French professional basketball player who currently plays for Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A. Victor is a 2.20 metre (7 ft 3 in) tall power forward who is regarded as one of Europe’s best prospects of his generation. Victor is widely regarded as the favorite to be selected first overall in the 2023 NBA draft. Wembanyama joined Espoirs Nanterre in the LNB Espoirs, France’s under-21 league, for the 2019-20 season. Victor represented Nanterre’s under-18 team at the Kaunas Tournament in February 2020, a qualifier for the Adidas Next Generation Tournament (ANGT). Wembanyama scored 22 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and blocked nine shots in a win over Zaragoza’s under-18 team on February 8.
Victor led the tournament in blocks with 15.8 points, 12 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and six blocks per game, and was named to the all-tournament team. Victor averaged 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in 20.1 minutes per game in 13 Espoirs games.
