Atsu started playing football with Porto in Portugal, quickly rising through the levels of the junior academy to make his professional team debut in 2010. Atsu achieved great success at Porto, winning two Primeira Liga championships and reaching the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Atsu has prior professional playing experience with a number of groups, including Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle United. In addition to his club career, Atsu has represented Ghana at the international level.

Atsu joined the Ghanaian national football squad in 2012, and since then, he has taken part in numerous significant international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.
