Atsu was born in Ada Foah, which is a part of the Greater Accra Region. Atsu completed a portion of his education at the West African Football Academy, which was once the Feyenoord Football Academy in Gomoa Fetteh, Ghana’s Central Region. The academy is located in Sogakope, Ghana’s Volta Region. Atsu then relocated to Kasoa in Ghana’s Central Region where he joined Cheetah FC.
Atsu and Süper Lig team Hatayspor agreed to a one-year starting contract with a one-year option on September 6, 2022. The day before the earthquake that claimed his life, on February 5, 2023, he participated in three league games and one Turkish Cup match.
