Cleopatra was much more than the tragic heroine or femme fatale that history frequently depicts her as; she was a formidable leader and a tremendously cunning politician. Between 51 and 30 BC, she ruled a nation that had been impoverished and torn apart by civil conflict, bringing peace and prosperity.

 

Cleopatra was not an Egyptian even if she was born there. She is descended from the Macedonian Greek royal family known as the Ptolemaic dynasty.

 

Was Cleopatra married to Ptolemy?

She was a very clever lady and a shrewd politician who brought wealth and peace to a country that was bankrupt and torn by civil war. Whether or not she was as beautiful as was described, she was a very intelligent woman.

 

Cleopatra was born sometime between the years 69 and 68 BC. Cleopatra became co-regent of Egypt together with her 10-year-old brother Ptolemy XIII after the death of their father, Ptolemy XII, in the year 51 BC. In accordance with the norms of Egyptian culture, they tied the knot.
