O’Grady experienced a serious heart attack in 2002, which he partly blames on his smoking behavior. He had a quadruple heart bypass procedure, which made him have to give up smoking.

Following his recovery, O’Grady openly discussed his struggles with addiction and became a proponent for quitting smoking. He supported campaigns to increase public awareness of the risks associated with tobacco use and urged others to give up smoking.
