Adams is recognized for bringing a grim realism to the comic book property at the time it was connected with the cartoony, colourful TV series starring Adam West during his time working on Batman in the early 1970s.

Along with reinventing classic Batman villains like Two-Face and the Joker, Adams and his writers at the time also co-created the Gotham baddies Man-Bat and Ra’s al Ghul.

Adams’ take on the Joker, which returned the character to his roots as a homicidal maniac in clown makeup, served as an inspiration for the villain who would appear countless times on the big screen and in graphic novels in the decades that followed.

What Batman legend has died?

Neal Adams, a renowned comic book creator who revived the Batman franchise and fashioned some of the Dark Knight’s most formidable adversaries, passed away at the age of 80.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Adams’ wife Marilyn has confirmed that her husband passed away on Thursday in New York as a result of complications from sepsis.
