Lane was previously serving as the offensive coordinator for the USC Trojans football. He served the team from the year 2005 to 2006. Lane later became the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the NFL. He served from 2007 to 2008 then he served as head coach of the University of Tennesse Volunteers college football team in the 2009 season. Then Lane went on to become the head coach of the Trojans from the year 2010 to 2013. Kiffin at the time was the youngest head coach in modern NFL history. Kiffin who served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama from 2014 until 2016, was then hired to serve as the head coach at Florida Atlantic. Lane held the position until December 2019. It was in the year 2019 that Lane became the head coach at Ole Miss.
