Eugenio Scalfari (6 April 1924 – 14 July 2022) was an Italian writer. He was supervisor of the news magazine L’Espresso (1963-1968), an individual from parliament in the Chamber of Deputies (1968-1972), and fellow benefactor of the paper La Repubblica and its manager from 1976 to 1996.

Scalfari started secondary studies at Mamiani High School in Rome.

Scalfari’s family, of the Calabrian beginning, later moved to Sanremo (where his dad was creative overseer of the Casino) and he finished his secondary school concentrates there, at the G.D. Cassini school, where Italo Calvino was a cohort.

In 1950, Scalfari wedded Simonetta, a girl of the columnist Giulio De Benedetti; she kicked the bucket in 2006.

From the finish of the seventies, Scalfari was sincerely connected to Serena Rossetti, previous article secretary of L’Espresso and later of La Repubblica, whom he wedded after the passing of his better half Simonetta.

After the Second World War, Scalfari was near the Italian Liberal Party, yet in 1956 he took part in the split from the party of the Radicals (liberal nonconformists), like Marco Pannella and Ernesto Rossi, that shaped the Radical Party.

In 1968, Scalfari was chosen for the Chamber of Deputies (1968-1972) as a free lined up with the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) and gave over his post as the manager to Gianni Corbi.
