According to Dyer, who is of British-Chinese ancestry, Mr. Coyle allegedly shouted racist insults and made Dyer feel uncomfortable during an altercation in a Commons bar.

Following charges that Labour MP Neil Coyle made racist remarks to a journalist in a House of Commons pub, his whip was suspended.

It follows an allegation by Henry Dyer, a political reporter for the Insider website, concerning Coyle’s alleged behavior since 2015. Coyle has been the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark in south London since 2015.

Dyer, who is of British Chinese descent, said Coyle referred to China as “Fu Manchu” and told him he looked like he was involved in supplying money to Labour MP Barry Gardiner, who got substantial sums from a woman later suspected of being a Chinese agent, according to a statement released by Insider.

He stated that he had apologized to all those involved and would cooperate with the investigation.

Mr. Dyer later acknowledged that Mr. Coyle had expressed regret for his inappropriate behavior and that he would cooperate with the Labour Party’s inquiry.

“He asked me if it was just the case that I was being oversensitive, before claiming that he would apologize if he had said something wrong and it was not just him being sensitive, which I thought was disingenuous,” Dyer said of Coyle’s remark. Henry went on to say that he had Chinese ancestors.

Dyer responded by claiming to be a British Chinese, to which Coyle replied, “From the way you appear, you have been sending renminbi [the Chinese currency] to Barry Gardiner.”

Dyer claimed that as he walked out of the bar, he waved goodbye to Coyle, who responded by raising two fingers at him.
