As we approach the British Grand Prix in Silverstone with just a few days to go this weekend, some words used by the former F1 Champion Nelson Piquet have made waves in the headlines.

Both Formula 1 and Mercedes have released statements from their campus in support of Lewis Hamilton who was the target of racial abuse by Piquet.

Hamilton has therefore called for legal ‘action’ and says the ‘archaic mindsets need to change’ after Piquet subjected him to the abuse.

Piquet used a racially offensive expression in Portuguese during a Brazilian podcast last November. He referred to the British driver Hamilton as he discussed Hamilton and Verstappen’s collision during the 2021 British GP.
