Because of that, he was known to have used his mother’s maiden name to hide his identity, especially from his father.

According to the reports, his dad wanted him to be a professional tennis player and worked out a scholarship to that effect in a school in Atlanta.

In 1978, he made his Formula One debut with the Ensign team.
