The independent FIFA Ethics Committee removed Blatter from office and barred him from participating in any FIFA activities for the ensuing eight years in December 2015. Blatter and other senior FIFA officials were suspended amid the investigation in October 2015. A FIFA appeals committee affirmed the suspension on February 24, 2016, but it was shortened from eight years to six.
