Issei Sagawa was born to well-off parents on April 26, 1949, in Kobe, Hygo Prefecture.

Sagawa’s grandfather had worked as an editor for The Asahi Shimbun, and his father, Akira Sagawa, was a businessman who had presided over Kurita Water Industries.

Sagawa was diagnosed with enteritis, a disorder of the small intestine, shortly after being born preterm and apparently small enough to fit in the palm of his father.

After several potassium and calcium in saline injections, Sagawa ultimately made a full recovery. Due to his precarious health and reclusive nature, Sagawa became very interested in literature.

Sagawa attended schools in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, where, after viewing a male’s thigh in the first grade, he initially developed cannibalistic inclinations.

What does Issei Sagawa do now?

Issei Sagawa is currently unrestricted and free to go about his daily life in Tokyo. When one learns that the prospect of life in jail hasn’t done anything to control his appetites, it is a terrible concept.

Around June, when women start dressing more casually and baring more flesh, the impulse to devour people reaches its peak, he claimed.
