After a lengthy struggle with dementia, Davie Wilson, a former Scottish footballer who played for the Rangers, died on June 14, 2022. On January 10th, 1937, he was born. Wilson passed away at the age of 85. The Rangers released a statement announcing the legend’s passing.

Wilson was a lifelong Rangers supporter, having been born and raised in the mining town of Newton near Glasgow.

During a visit to Ibrox Stadium, Wilson received coaching from former great Alan Morton, who rose to prominence as a left-winger.

He was turned down by local junior team Cambuslang Rangers as a child because he was too little, thus he started his career at Baillieston. He was quickly noticed by the Rangers, who signed him in 1956.

What Happened To Davie Wilson?

Davie Wilson suffered dementia as his family said last August that he had ceased attending Ibrox games due to “ongoing Alzheimer’s and memory concerns.”

“Rangers Football Club is today incredibly saddened to hear of the demise of former player Davie Wilson at the age of 85,” the club stated in a statement.

“The Rangers’ directors, staff, and players are mindful about Davie’s family and friends today.”
