After enrolling at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Thomas joined the team. Later, he competed in the Army All-American Game. On July 10, 2016, he chose Georgia over Florida, Alabama, Auburn, and other schools.
While in college, Thomas won the 2019 Jacobs Blocking Trophy, the 2019 Unanimous All-American, the 2018 First Team All-American, the 2X First Team All-SEC, and the 2017 Freshman All-American.
On December 17th, 2019, he announced that he would forego his senior year and enter the 2020 NFL Draft. The New York Giants selected Thomas in the draft, and he now plays alongside Saquon Barkley on the team.
In February 2022, Thomas underwent surgery to repair the same left foot that he had broken earlier in the season.
