Thomas started every game at right tackle as a true freshman, earning him Freshman All-American honors at the end of the season. For his sophomore season, Thomas moved to left tackle. He injured his left ankle against South Carolina and did not return against Middle Tennessee.

Thomas gradually returned to full participation over the next two games, though he was forced to wear a brace after re-injuring his ankle later in the season.

Thomas was named SEC offensive lineman of the week after assisting in 331 rushing yards against Kentucky. After the season, he was named first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC.
