Richard Edward Taylor was a Canadian scientist who, along with Henry Kendall and Jerome Friedman, won the Nobel Prize in Physics for developing the quarks model. He attended three different schools while growing up in Canada before enrolling at the University of Alberta, Edmonton. He wasn’t a particularly gifted student when he was in school, but his teachers helped him develop an interest in the sciences, which led him to study science at university.

Taylor earned his master’s degree from the University of Edmonton, went on to earn his doctorate at Stanford University, and then worked there as a professor and researcher. He spent a lot of time at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), where he collaborated with two other scientists to develop his experiments on the quarks model in the 1970s.

During his illustrious career as a particle physicist, he also traveled to Europe for research, working in France, Germany, and at CERN in Geneva. He eventually became SLAC’s Assistant Director of Research.
