Ron served as a head coach for a total of twelve seasons throughout his tenure, beginning with the Carolina Panthers. Over the course of nine seasons, he coached the Panthers and amassed a record of 76-67-1. He was let go from his position with the Panthers.

His subsequent job as head coach was with the Washington Football Squad from 2020 to 2022, during which time the team compiled a record of 15-23-0 under his direction.
