Rupert Murdoch is of English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. Murdoch’s parents were also born in Melbourne, and his grandfather was a Presbyterian minister. Keith Murdoch was a war correspondent who later became a regional newspaper magnate with two newspapers in Adelaide, South Australia, and a radio station in a remote mining town, as well as the chairman of the powerful Herald and Weekly Times publishing company. Keith Rupert later chose to use his maternal grandfather’s first name as his middle name. Janet Calvert-Jones, Anne Kantor, and Helen Handbury were Rupert Murdoch’s three sisters.
