Trevor Reed, a former US Marine who had been imprisoned in Russia since 2019 as part of a prisoner swap with the US, was released on Wednesday.
Reed was released two years after a Russian court found him guilty and sentenced him to nine years in prison for allegedly assaulting a Russian police officer while inebriated.
“Today, we are delighted to welcome Trevor Reed home and celebrate his reunion with his family, who have been terribly missing him.” Trevor, a former United States Marine, has been released from Russian detention.
Trevor’s parents’ voices expressed their concern about his health as well as their desire to see him.
Following Reed’s release, US President Joe Biden remarked, “I was happy to be able to share with them the wonderful news of Trevor’s liberation.”
