Leo Anthony Gallagher Jr., who is known mononymously as Gallagher was born on July 24, 1946. Gallagher was a well-known American comedian. Gallagher became one of the most recognized comedic performers of the 1980s. Gallagher was well known for his prop and observational routine which included the signature act of smashing a watermelon on stage with a sledgehammer among other marvelous things he did on stage.

When Gallagher completed college, he began working as comic/musician Jim Stafford’s road manager. Gallagher traveled with Stafford to California in the year 1969. It was at time Gallagher decided to perform himself. Gallagher then began honing his own comedy act while frequenting both The Comedy Store and The Ice House. Gallagher made a performance on two occasions on The Tonight Show. At the time, Johnny Carson was hosting the show even though Carson was not a fan prop comedy. Gallagher debuted on the show on December 5, 1975, when he demonstrated his prop. Gallagher left a legacy to be emulated in the comedy space.
