Robert Neil Baun, is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, who was born on September 9, 1936, he is known for participating in junior hockey with the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey Association, from 1952 through 1956, where he won the Memorial Cup in 1955 and 1956. He previously played in the National Hockey League for 17 seasons between 1956 and 1973.
Baun is known to be one of the hardest and cleanest hitters of his day. Since he never scored more than 20 points in a single NHL season, he was not viewed favourably as an offensive threat.
In 1959–60, he scored eight goals, which was his most in a single season. However, Baun is best known for his play in game six of the 1963–1964 NHL season’s Stanley Cup finals against the Detroit Red Wings.
After injuring his ankle early in the game on April 23, 1964, he came back in overtime and scored the game-winning goal to tie the best-of-seven series at 3-3. The following game was won by the Leafs 4-0, giving them their third straight Stanley Cup victory.
