Baun played junior hockey for the Ontario Hockey Association’s Toronto Marlboros from 1952 to 1956, winning the Memorial Cup in 1955 and 1956.

After turning professional, Baun played for the Rochester Americans, an American Hockey League team that was a Toronto Maple Leafs affiliate, for most of the 1956–1957 season.

Bobby Baun played in Toronto for the subsequent 11 seasons after being called up to the Leafs during the current season, winning the Stanley Cup in 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1967.

Bobby Baun was the hardest and cleanest hitter of his period. He was not regarded as an offensive threat as a defenseman because he never finished an NHL season with more than 20 points.

In 1959-60, he had the most goals in a single season with eight. However, Baun is best known for his performance in Game 6 of the 1963-1964 Stanley Cup Finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.
