Prior to his move to Bayern, Sven was Stuttgart II’s first-choice goalkeeper during their first four matches of the 2007-08 Regionlliga season. Sven kept two clean sheets in that competition. Before then, Sven played 10 matches during the previous season and received two yellow cards.
In January 2008, Sven was then promoted to the first team of VfB Stuttgart. He made his first team debut for the first team on 9 February 2008. His debut match saw a 3–1 loss to Hertha BSC. Sven later earned his first victory as the starting goalkeeper on 16 February 2008 in a match against MSV Duisburg.
Ulreich extended his contract at VfB Stuttgart On 6 April 2010. The contract was to last until the summer of 2013 however, on 20 January 2012 Sven again extended his contract to last until June 2017. However, in the 2015-16 season, Ulreich moved to Bayern Munich.
