After graduating in 1960, Bob Berry played collegiate football for Len Casanova’s Oregon Ducks and won three letters.
On New Year’s Eve of 1963, Oregon’s final season competing as an independent, the Ducks defeated SMU in the Sun Bowl.

Bob Berry finished the Heisman Trophy competition in thirteenth place, just ahead of Joe Namath of Alabama and Gale Sayers of Kansas. Notre Dame’s John Huarte received the honour.

Bob Berry finished his senior year at Oregon before signing with the Minnesota Vikings in late November. He had been selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the eleventh round of the NFL Draft in 1964 as well as the Denver Broncos in the twenty-sixth round of the AFL Draft.
