Madison Kyle Bumgarner is a skilled American baseball pitcher, who was selected for four National League (NL) All-Star teams and has the most strikeouts of any left-handed pitcher in Giants history.

Bumgarner was chosen by the San Francisco Giants with the tenth overall pick in the first round of the 2007 MLB Draft. He was pegged by Baseball America, as the 14th-best prospect overall going into the draft.

Since Matt Cain in 2002, he was the first pitcher out of high school to be taken by the Giants as their first pick, and Noah Lowry in 2001 was the last left-handed pitcher to do so.

In 2008, Bumgarner pitched for the Augusta Greenjackets, the Giants’ Low-A South Atlantic League affiliate. After struggling in his first three starts in Augusta under the Giants’ instruction, Bumgarner returned to his high school approach after changing the angle of his head during delivery.

He worked on his changeup, slider, and excellent inside-the-plate throwing with Augusta, which is important for a pitcher with his side-armed delivery.
