Danelo Cavalcante, the murderer who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison last month, and is still at large, is considered “armed and extremely dangerous” after stealing a rifle and a flashlight.

The 34-year-old successfully stole a “.22-caliber rifle with scope and flashlight attached” late Monday from a garage in East Nantmeal Township, despite the homeowner firing at him, according to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens.

Cavalcante also stole ammunition that “was with the firearm,” he said. “He is considered armed and extremely dangerous,” Bivens stressed. “We have always considered him to be a risk. We just now absolutely know that he has a weapon. He’s killed two people before.” He added that there always remains a risk that he might kill again.

Where is Danelo Cavalcante from?

Cavalcante is an undocumented immigrant who entered the country illegally. He fled to the United States because he was wanted for a 2017 murder in his native Brazil.

Cavalcante stabbed his former girlfriend of two years, Deborah Brandao dozens of times in front of her two young children in 2021. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison only to escape Chester County Prison at the end of August.

Prosecutors believe he killed Brandao after she learned of the murder he conducted in Brazil and threatened to go to authorities.

It was only after he was wanted for murder in Chester County that authorities learned he was also wanted in connection to a murder outside of the US. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson told the New York Times a detainer was lodged against Cavalcante after his arrest in Chester County.
