Buckner was a four-star recruit at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Houston Texans’ current kicker, Kaimi Fairbairn, was also a teammate of Buckner’s.

In 16 games with 16 starts in 2019, Buckner has 61 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, two pass deflections, and a score.

In the NFC Divisional Round matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, Buckner made his postseason debut. In the game, which his team won 27-10, he recorded two tackles and one sack of Kirk Cousins.
