Both Thao and Kueng were previously found guilty of federal charges in the 46-year-old father’s killing. Kueng assisted in holding Floyd while Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than 9 minutes, and Thao resisted the demands of enraged witnesses for police to stop touching Floyd. Charges of violating Floyd’s civil rights and failing to step in to stop Chauvin during the restraint led to their conviction.

Floyd’s civil rights were violated, and J. Alexander Kueng has already served three years in federal prison for that. J. Alexander Kueng’s punishment for his part in George Floyd’s slaying in May 2020 will be handed down in Hennepin County Court today.
