On March 12, 1992, robbers entered Jack Koslow and Caren Courtney Koslow’s home in the Rivercrest section of Fort Worth, Texas. When Caren Koslow’s throat was cut, she died, but Jack managed to get out of the house and live.
Jack Koslow, a 48-year-old helicopter pilot, was killed at the time. Kristi Koslow was 17 years old, and Caren Koslow was 40 years old. Both came from families of oil industry experts. The Koslows are “peripheral” to Fort Worth’s “social whirl,” according to Mike Cochran of the Associated Press.
The initial suspicion was cast upon Jack Koslow. In the end, detectives discovered that Brian Dennis Salter and Jeffrey Dillingham had attacked the Koslows, with Salter cutting their throats and Dillingham attacking them. After the assault, they took a $1,600 wristwatch and a wallet containing $200 in cash.
Jack Koslow’s daughter Kristi Anne Koslow, stepdaughter Caren Koslow, and Dillingham had worked together to extort an inheritance. They were able to enter the Koslow home since Kristi had given them the codes for the alarm. Kristi Koslow would guarantee them $1 million if they carried out the attack.
