Senior Chief Mike Day, his team of Navy SEALs, and a group of Iraqi scouts were on the hunt for a high-level al Qaeda cell on the night of April 6, 2007, in Iraq’s Anbar Province.

Day was the first to enter a 1212 room, where four terrorist leaders lay in wait.

Mike Day took out all four terrorists in the room after the gunfight ended, but not before being shot twenty-seven times and hit with grenade shrapnel. Day miraculously cleared the rest of the house, rescuing six women and children before walking out alone to an awaiting helicopter, which flew him to safety.

The Navy SEAL lost 55 pounds in two weeks while in the hospital. Day’s physical recovery from his injuries took nearly two years, and he still suffers from pain. Doctors diagnosed Day, like so many other veterans, with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, the invisible wounds of war.

The retired Navy SEAL is now a full-time Special Operations Command wounded warrior advocate. Advocating also entails raising funds for treatment programs at the Texas Carrick Brain Centers.
