Katie Ledecky is an American swimmer who established many world records as one of the sport’s most dominant freestylers in the early twenty-first century. She was the winner of 10 Olympic medals, seven of which were gold.

 

After her freshman year at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Maryland, Ledecky made her international debut when she established an Olympic trials record in the 800-meter freestyle to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics as the United States’ youngest member.

 

Ledecky broke her own records in the 800 meters (8:11 seconds) and the 1,500 meters (15:34.23 seconds) in June 2014, and in early August, she set a world record in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3 minutes 58.86 seconds, making her the first female swimmer since American Janet Evans to hold world records in all three distances.
