She is regarded as one of the deadliest serial murderers in Canadian history, responsible for the deaths or injuries of a total of 14 people.
Elizabeth Wettlaufer was born and reared in the rural Ontario town of Zorra Township.
She was raised in a fervently Baptist home and later went on to graduate from Huron Park Secondary School in the mid-1980s with a bachelor’s degree in religious education counselling from London Baptist Bible College. At Conestoga College, Wettlaufer later pursued a nursing degree.
Wettlaufer started administering insulin injections to some of the patients she cared for while working as a nurse at Caressant Care.
She was charged with and admitted to aggravated assault or attempted murder in circumstances when the dosage was insufficient to kill the patient.
The initial assaults by Wettlaufer happened between June 25 and December 31, 2007. She acknowledged giving insulin injections to sisters Albina Demedeiros, 88, and Clotilde Adriano, 87.
