Within a year, Elizabeth had landed a position at Woodstock’s Caressant Care, a nursing home where she committed most of her crimes.
In spite of the fact that Elizabeth had no prior criminal record and did not fit the profile of a serial killer, she subsequently said that she used to have an uncontrollable drive to kill and that a voice in her head led to the person who would be her next target.
Elizabeth revealed that she was unable to resist the impulse and that she would have a rush of odd yet mirthful laughing after she had done the murder.

At the end of September 2016, Elizabeth made the decision to enter a drug recovery programme at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Ontario.
While at the rehab centre, she partially confessed to her murderous tendencies, prompting the organisation to contact the police as well as the College of Nurses of Ontario, which led to the organisation contacting the authorities CNO.
Elizabeth had already made a mistake by the time she understood what she had done. Despite the fact that she resigned from her position as a certified nurse with the CNO, officials were hot on her trail.
Consequently, Elizabeth Wettlaufer was sentenced to eight consecutive life sentences in prison by a federal judge in 2017.
In addition, the judge determined that she would have to serve at least 25 years in prison before being eligible to be released on parole.
Following her conviction, she was sentenced to a term of imprisonment at a women’s jail in Kitchener, Ontario.
