About UFC

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a mixed martial art (MMA) promotion organization headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Zuffa, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Endeavor Group Holdings, owns and operates it. As of 2011, it was the world’s largest MMA promotion business. It holds tournaments all over the world that feature 12 weight divisions (eight men’s and four women’s) and follow the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. It had hosted nearly 600 events as of 2022. Dana White has been the company’s president since 2001. It has developed into a multibillion-dollar global corporation under White’s leadership. The UFC was formed in 1993 in the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado, by businessman Art Davie and Brazilian martial artist Rorion Gracie. The early Ultimate Fighting Championship tournaments aimed to find the most effective martial art in combat with few rules and no weight classifications between contestants from various fighting disciplines. Following events, more stringent rules were established, and combatants began to employ efficient techniques from more than one discipline, indirectly contributing to the development of a distinct fighting style known as modern mixed martial arts.

In 2016, UFC’s parent company, Zuffa, was sold for US$4.025 billion to a group led by Endeavor, then known as William Morris Endeavor (WME-IMG), which included Silver Lake Partners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, and MSD Capital. Endeavor paid $1.7 billion to buy out Zuffa’s other shareholders in 2021.

The UFC has increased mainstream media coverage with a TV deal and expansion in Australia, Asia, Europe, and new areas within the United States. It made $609 million in 2015, and its next five-year domestic television rights arrangement with ESPN was worth $1.5 billion.
