Hussain was a top-ranking TV anchor who was named three times among the world’s 500 most influential Muslims and among Pakistan’s 100 most popular celebrities.

Since August 2018, he has served in the Pakistani National Assembly, having previously served in the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 and as Minister of State for Religious Affairs from 2004 to 2007.

Amir has been embroiled in a controversy concerning his academic credentials.

In 2006, Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission deemed the Trinity College and University’s Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Studies Liaquat to be bogus and unrecognized.
