AKA, a rapper from South Africa, was born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes on January 28, 1988. AKA Forbes, a Cape Town native who was reared in the city, gained notoriety after his self-titled debut studio album’s song “Victory Lap” was released (2010).
Together with his two friends Vice Versa and Greyhound, Forbes established the hip-hop group Entity in 2002. The ensemble was put forth for a KORA Award in the Best African Hip Hop category.
Forbes maintained his research into sound engineering after the company was shut down in 2006. Forbes co-founded the production group The I.V League in 2006 with two additional members.
The second album by Forbes, titled Levels, was made available on June 30, 2014. In order to promote the album, four singles “Jealousy,” “Kontrol” (with Da L.E.S), “Congratulate,” and “Run Jozi (Godly)” were made available. The albums received platinum and double platinum certifications from RiSA in 2014 and 2018.
Forbes released a picture on Instagram on February 21, 2021, in which he declared his engagement to girlfriend Nelli Tembe. Tembe died on April 11, 2021, in Cape Town from injuries sustained after he fell from a hotel.
