Two of the leading lights in women’s tennis have been Venus and Serena Williams. The sisters changed tennis on the tour and have served as genuine role models for innumerable aspiring young players. However, they also had fierce competition when their careers were at their peak, which further enhanced the sport.
Their long-term coaching was provided by their parents, Richard Williams and Oracene Price, and their journey was recently documented in the movie “King Richard,” which stars Will Smith as the title character. The older Venus made her debut first in 1994, while her younger sister Serena followed immediately behind in 1995. They have now become unstoppable forces to be reckoned with on the WTA tour.
The sisters are renowned for their ferocious and energetic rivalry. After 31 encounters, the most recent of which occurred in 2020, Serena leads her opponent by a score of 19–12 in head-to-head competition.
Serena Williams and Venus Williams both shared the top spot in the singles rankings for the same length of time—Serena for 361 weeks and Venus for 11 weeks. They have both previously claimed the top rank in doubles. From the US Open in 2001 to the Australian Open in 2017, the sisters faced off in nine Grand Slam finals.

Venus has triumphed in 49 singles titles during her career whereas Serena has triumphed in 73. The Williams sisters were the only two women to participate in four consecutive major finals, from the 2002 French Open through the 2003 Australian Open. Serena triumphed in all four of these finals.
