Deborah Sara Santana (born January 30, 1951) is an activist for peace and social justice for women and people of colour, leaders and writers. She is the ex-wife of musician Carlos Santana.
Santana is the daughter of blues musicians Saunders King and Joe Francis King (Nee Willis).
Santana graduated from the California Institute for Integrated Studies and she holds her master’s degree in the arts of philosophy and religion with a focus on female spirituality.
She was Vice President and COO of Santana Management from 1994 to 2007, helping manage her husband’s band.
Santana founded Do a Little in 2008; it is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls and women from underprivileged backgrounds.
Additionally, Santana has held trustee positions at the Smithsonian Institution and ANSA (Artists for a New South Africa).
She is a member of the Advisory Committee and a First Century Leader of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative.
She serves on the board of the Violence Intervention program in Los Angeles.
