His most well-known stroke—and only major victory to date—was a chip from outside the green at Augusta National’s 11th hole to win the 1987 Masters Tournament in a playoff. Larry Mize is also the only winner from Augusta in the contest.

The Buick Open in Flint, Michigan, and the Northern Telecom Open in Tucson, Arizona, were the next two PGA Tour competitions that Mize won in 1993. On the 2010 Champions Tour, he was successful in Montreal, Canada as well.

Mize won four international competitions while representing the American teams in the Ryder Cup in 1987 and the Dunhill Cup in 2000. Mize, who grew up in Augusta, Georgia, used to operate the scoreboard on the third hole at the Master’s Tournament.
