Jim Graves established the AmericInn network, and the first hotel started taking guests in 1984. In Minnesota and Wisconsin, there were more than 20 AmericInn establishments by 1990. In 1994, Wyman Nelson assisted AmericInn in starting its franchising initiative. Businessman Wyman Nelson is most recognized for his role in the 1960s and 1970s expansion of the Perkins Restaurant and Bakery chain.
Expansion outside of the Midwest began in about 2000. The Upper Midwest is home to almost 80% of AmericInn’s 240 motels. Masonry blocks, soundproofing foam, sturdy drywall, and concrete slabs are utilized in the building of the rooms to lessen noise within them.
