The Fox Engine was a custom game engine created by Kojima Productions Co., Ltd. (now Konami Digital Entertainment) for use in Konami titles. It was cross-platform and cross-generational. After Metal Gear Solid 4 was finished in 2008, Fox Engine’s development got under way with the intention of creating the “greatest engine in the world.” The first game to use the Fox Engine that was commercially released was Pro Evolution Soccer 2014.

Fox Engine has been said to as the developer’s first step away from platform-specific development because it was created to enable Kojima Productions to create multiplatform games with a greatly reduced production time.

The name of the engine is a reference to the fictional military unit FOX from the Metal Gear series, as well as Kojima Productions, which based its corporate insignia on FOX’s fox emblem.

Due to PES Productions’ decision to concentrate development resources on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, Konami chose to stop using the Fox Engine after seven years of use on the Pro Evolution Soccer series in favor of the Unreal Engine.

Who Owns The Fox Engine?

The developer of the Metal Gear series and video game designer Hideo Kojima established Kojima Productions Co., Ltd. in Japan in 2015. This company was the owner of The Fox Engine.
