Who was Mahsa Amini?

Mahsa Amini was a 22 years old lady on a visit with her family to the Iranian capital when police arrested her on Tuesday. The Islamic Republic has a strict dress code for women that includes wearing a headscarf in public and is enforced by the police department.

According to the media, “unfortunately, she passed away and her body was brought to the medical examiner’s office.” The previously healthy Amini was transferred to the hospital in a coma a few hours after her arrest, and she died now, according to her family.

Mahsa Amini was held for allegedly breaking the dress code. Protests and condemnations from prominent Iranians have followed her strange death, which was made public on social media.
