John Hunter Blair is the creator and brains behind the popular children’s television show Blue Peter in the United Kingdom. It has been shown since October 1958, making it the longest-running children’s television program in the world.
Up until September 2011, it was predominantly broadcast from the BBC Television Centre in London. Then, it switched to the dock10 studios at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester. Currently, it airs live every Friday at 5 p.m. on the CBBC television channel. The program is replayed on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and Sundays at 9:00 a.m. A BSL version of the program is shown on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.
After it was first created, a BBC team under the direction of Biddy Baxter worked to improve the show. She took over as the show’s editor in 1965 and left her position in 1988. There have been 40 presenters throughout the show’s existence; at the moment, Richie Driss and Mwaksy Mudenda are in charge of the presentation.
